Numerical control technicians are indispensable professionals in the machinery manufacturing industry, primarily utilizing numerical control technology for machining and production. They are professionals who master numerical control technology, operate numerical control machine tools, conduct numerical control programming, debug and maintain numerical control equipment, and solve various technical problems in the numerical control processing process.
The main positions for numerical control technicians include numerical control operators, numerical control programming technicians, and numerical control maintenance workers.
The development of numerical control practitioners can be divided into three distinct levels of professionals.
The blue-collar level includes numerical control operation technicians who are proficient in machining and numerical control processing technology, skilled in operating numerical control machine tools and manual programming, and have knowledge of automatic programming and basic maintenance and repair of numerical control machine tools. These personnel are highly demanded in the market and are suitable for operating numerical control machine tools in workshops. However, their knowledge is relatively limited.
The gray-collar level generally includes numerical control programmers and numerical control machine tool maintenance and repair personnel. Numerical control programmers possess knowledge of numerical control processing technology and the operation of numerical control machine tools, are familiar with the design and manufacturing expertise of complex molds, and are proficient in using three-dimensional CAD/CAM software such as UG and PRO/E. They are also skilled in numerical control automatic programming and manual programming. These personnel are highly demanded, especially in the mold industry.
Numerical control machine tool maintenance and repair personnel have a deep understanding of the mechanical structure and electromechanical integration of numerical control machine tools, are proficient in their operation and programming, and are familiar with the characteristics, software and hardware structure, PLC, and parameter settings of various numerical control systems. They are proficient in the debugging and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical components of numerical control machine tools. Although there is a relatively smaller demand for these personnel, cultivating them is challenging due to the extensive practical experience required. Currently, there is a significant shortage of such personnel, and they are well-compensated.
The gold-collar level comprises versatile numerical control professionals who possess and are proficient in the comprehensive knowledge required by numerical control operation technicians, numerical control programmers, and numerical control maintenance and repair personnel. They have accumulated substantial practical experience in their work and possess a broad range of knowledge. They are proficient in the mechanical structure design of numerical control machine tools and the electrical design of numerical control systems, and are skilled in the electromechanical integration of numerical control machine tools. They can independently select numerical control systems, design, install, debug, and repair the electrical systems of numerical control machine tools. Their ability to independently complete the numerical control retrofitting of machine tools makes them highly sought-after talents in enterprises.
Studying numerical control technology in school under the guidance of teachers allows individuals to continuously accumulate experience through practice and learning, enhancing their skill level and work efficiency. In the future, numerical control technology will develop in a more intelligent, automated, and efficient direction. Therefore, numerical control technicians need to continuously learn new technologies and knowledge to improve their skills and innovation capabilities. Meanwhile, with the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry and the advancement of digital manufacturing, the status and role of numerical control technicians in the manufacturing industry will become even more important.
